Light of My Heart This was only a 3 star read but I upped it to 4 because THE HERO WAS A VIRGIN Forms of address are still all wrong and the science stuff was a bit boring. wife, and the theft of his life s work by another scientist. Both need understanding, patience, love and time.Elizabeth has written a wonderfully descriptive and touching story , one that you have no problem immersing yourself in completely, it s so emotional reading about the challenges faced by both characters I love this series Elizabeth St Michel is a new author for me, this is the first of her books that I have read Light of My Heart is a fun sexy read with great lead characters Rachel is a colonial who s come to England to escape from a near tragedy Anthony is the Duke of Rutlandboth and look forward tofrom Elizabeth St Michel I received an advanced copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review As I read this, I was quite baffled by the ratings But then when I checked back on goodreads I realized the number of reviews and ratings are quite scarce and I find that often the earliest reviews tend to rate the book highly even with complaints Who knows why, maybe because they were given the book for free in exchange for an honest review and so they felt some goodwill towards the author or maybe they knew the author personally I don t want to be suspicious, but this book is so far off fro As I read this, I was quite baffled by the ratings But then when I checked back on goodreads I realized the number of reviews and ratings are quite scarce view spoiler The writing is so convoluted it goes in circles I actually asked it CAN T THESE CHARACTERS JUST BE DIRECT It was full of filler words that pretended to describe parts of the story only for you to realize at the end that you re no closer to grasping what was described That to me means poor ability to communicate a message It s filled with dialogue that pretends to be smart but just leaves me scratching my head Take for example Aunt Margaret, the Duke says she s brilliant but for what For knowing that absence makes the heart grow fonder For seeing that the hero and heroine were perfect for each other But those are all common observations, even Abby could tell the butler could tell I could tell based on the fact that the hero and heroine share common interests that are rare and therefore they would want to be with people who understand them instead of seeing them as having weird hobbies. The writing is also quite tedious with all the talk about electricity It did not feel like a romance as the romantic feelings were so dry and few Actually the whole thing was emotionally dry when a character was said to be angry, I couldn t feel why he d feel that way and neither could I feel the anger from how the scene was written The dialogue seemed devoid of any emotion The scene that I did not get the most was when the heroine turned into a crying hysterical woman and revealed her secret but why Because the hero said some hurtful words The correct reaction for me, given how the heroine was described as strong, self reliant, and tough, was to get angry Instead she cried over words carelessly thrown out Then there was the plot line about someone wanting the hero dead It was just meh Nothing made progress for a long time, not the invention, the romance, and not the suspense lines I couldn t help feeling that this book could have been reduced to half its length and nothing substantial would have been missed.I also did not like the hero He was condescending towards everybody He would rudely tell people about their stupidity I didn t mind much when he directed it towards people who deserved to be put in their places, but when he just generally meant everyone in the same ballroom as him and when the writing tried to show most of England was dumb I couldn t stand him hide spoiler Light of My Heart is the second book in Elizabeth St Michel s wonderful family through the book from the very beginning As usual Elizabeth weaves a dark and menacing plot through the background of this romantic tale with evil nasty characters that keep appearing But then there is also the humorous sub plot that Elizabeth manages so well enter Aunt Margaret, The Duke of Rutland and his butler Sebastian, you will smile with their antics and conversations This is a fabulous
